Marcus Fletcher

Research Associate at Imperial College London

I am a Post-doctoral Research Associate working on developing new microfluidics, automation and computer vision methods to replicate cell-like functions using systems made from purified molecules. As of June 2024, I additionally received a Researcher Co-Investigator grant with Dr Yuval Elani and Dr Antonio Del Rio Chanona to further develop data-driven control systems within synthetic cell microfluidics. Previous to joining Imperial in 2022, I completed a PhD in Biophysics in the group of Ulrich Keyser at the University of Cambridge, where I studied the physics of ion transport across model cell membranes.

In Autumn 2026 I will be starting an Imperial College Research Fellowship hosted by Professor Benoit Chachuat and Professor Paul Freemont. I will be seeking PhD students to join various projects combining robotics, microfluidics for discovery of optimisation of biomolecular systems (peptides, proteins and biomolecular assemblies) from October 2026.
